About Ed Steffes

I am a native Marylander, born in Bethesda and living in Salisbury on Maryland's "Eastern Shore."

I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh and a Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida State University.

I taught sociology at Salisbury University for twenty-six years, including twelve years as chair of the department.  My primary specialties were research methods, statistics, family sociology, gender sociology, and demography.  After retiring from university teaching, I worked as an independent investment adviser for five years.

Now almost fully retired from paid employment, I am pursuing a number of activities on a volunteer basis.  I serve as music director for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Salisbury, and give occasional lectures there.  I provide complimentary financial advice to friends and acquaintances, encouraging them to make charitable donations in lieu of payment.  I am also exploring a wide range of intellectual interests, especially in the areas of science, philosophy and theology.
