The Board of Trustees
Sung to the tune of "The Company Way"
by Frank Loesser
New lyrics by Ed Steffes
Now you may wander aimlessly, always going along with the herd
But we know where we're going, flying true like a migrating bird
A life without direction is pointless and absurd
But we go forth in confidence our place in heaven is assured, 'cause...
We serve on the Board of Trustees
If we can do anything for you, just say please
We don't want to blow our own horns, but one thing's clear
That we're the main reason this church is even here
Every question comes before us
So that we can have our say
If a question's very trivial
We'll be sure and talk for hours anyway
We serve on the Board of Trustees
We formulate plans and design the policies
We reach a conclusion so democratically
I'm only one vote and that means you can't blame me
When our members sing our praises
We will each accept our share
When it's blame that's being doled out
We will all agree the buck stops over there
We serve on the Board of Trustees
We're happy to tell ya we find our job's a breeze
The things that aren't broken we're always glad to fix
The things that are really messed up we just deep-six
I was critical of our old board
So they made me serve myself
I can't wait 'til my term's over
Then I'll get back to attacking someone else
We serve on the Board of Trustees
It's hard to be humble when you're such VIPs
We look to the future without a trace of fear
'Cause thanks to our wonderful work our church will still be here
Year after year after fiscal, positively blissful year!
