When I was growing up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Al Cohen was the proprietor of a small magic shop a few blocks from the White House.  He demonstrated for me the first magic tricks I ever bought.  Only much later did I find out that he was considered one of the foremost magicians in the country.  Shops like his are mostly gone now, replaced by internet businesses.
